Pew internet usage: women and men

info provided by pewinternet.org:

-The percentage of women using the internet still lags slightly behind the percentage of men. Women under 30 and black women outpace their male peers. However, older women trail dramatically behind older men.

-Men are more avid consumers than women of online information. Men look for information on a wider variety of topics and issues than women do.

-Compared with men, online women are more likely to use the internet to: send and receive email, get maps and directions, look for health and medical information, use web sites to get support for health or personal problems, and get religious information.

-Men and women use the internet similarly for the many of the most standard kinds of transactions, from purchasing products to doing travel arrangements to banking.

-Men and women both use search engines heavily. 90% of online men and 91% of online women use search engines; 43% of those men and 39% of those women use them on an average day.

-Men are more likely than women to try new gadgets and applications and software.

Internet Neutrality

The FCC is currently having issues in dealing with Internet sharing. Many companies believe that in order to obtain faster speed, the customer should pay more for it. President Obama (and many others) believes that the should be some type of Internet neutrality, and are trying to implement a plan in order to prevent the "information superhighway from becoming a toll road". People against the charing for faster internet feels that there should not be preferential treatment to the people that pay for it.

My position on this issue would be on the side of the President and those who want to obtain Internet neutrality. Though people should not clutter the information superhighway, i still feel that they should not be charged extra just to search things they may need to search for.
